Bathe in the Fountain

I embrace my desire to

feel the rhythm, to feel connected

enough to step aside and weep like a widow

to feel inspired, to fathom the power,

to witness the beauty, to bathe in the fountain,

to swing on the spiral

of our divinity and still be a human.

As a child and young adult, I never understood why it was that my mother would cry during some of our family’s special events. I simply couldn’t fathom what could possibly take hold of someone in a manner in which weeping would be so spontaneous. The only inkling I had that this outward expression was not related to pain was watching my father rub elbows with mom and say, “Your shoes are gonna get wet,” all while smiling at her.  It wasn’t until I had my own children that this mystery became a closed case.

This past weekend I experienced one of those shoe-wetting moments when my oldest son graduated from college.  Watching him walk down the aisle wearing his cap and gown was not only representative of a pinnacle milestone in his life, but also an open window granting a ripple in space-time, offering me the opportunity to bathe in the fountain.

I now understand that this fountain is a metaphor for pride and joy. The love that underpins all of our truest intentions cannot be mistaken. It flows from the ethereal realm of our creation. There is an unequivocal sense of knowing that rises from the internal connection derived out of this stillness. Thank you Mom for teaching me to never worry about what others might think of my tears. In this manner, you displayed the essence of authenticity in the lesson titled, “Be True to Yourself.”

I now invite you to find your own wrinkle in time and come bathe in the fountain of your divinity. Let yourself be impacted by life so as to receive the enchantment from the drops of joy rising out of the depths of your being as expressions of your humanness.  There is no greater tribute to life than a rendition of love through the release and sheer beauty of our own emotions.
